Congratulations Michelle Wie

Congratulations to Michelle Wie for winning this year’s Lorena Ochoa Invitational

Michelle won today’s tournament by shooting a 3 under 69 to beat out Paula Creamer and Christie Kerr. This is her first win as a professional and probably her biggest win ever.

Without a doubt, the most interesting thing about this win is what it does to change the public’s perception of Wie and her perception of herself. Up until now, the biggest knock on her was that she was spoiled, mishandled by her opportunistic parents, and that she had never won or done anything to deserve all the attention and credit she was getting. Some have even suggested she was one of the most reviled atheletes in sports.

This win is going to help her shake off some of that, and there is no doubt that since this year’s Solheim Cup, her likeability has absolutely been on an upswing. From the looks of it, her game has been as well.

Plus – a great write up over at Waggle Room Golf comparing Wie’s and Tiger’s paths to their first wins.
